David Allen Flowers is a composer based in Evanston, IL. He enjoys writing music that is difficult, but fun for the performers and engaging for the audience. In his Chamber music he enjoys exploring sound-scape textures as accompaniments to melodies, to create an atmosphere in which the listener can completely lose themselves. David also writes theatrical works and currently writes pieces which hope to produce productive conversations between conflicting groups in society, such as the LGBTQ+ and Protestant Christian communities.
David graduated with a degree in Music Composition from Illinois Wesleyan University, where he studied under Dr. David Vayo. While attending university he was named a Robert S. Eckley Scholar, and spent the summer in residence writing “Sky”, a work for two orchestras. In June 2016 he attended the Fresh Inc. Festival in Kenosha, WI as a composer. Most recently he was commissioned by Kathryn Drake to write a String Quintet for a student ensemble at the University of Texas in Austin.
He currently works with the Etc. Music School, as an instructor and assistant director of Music Theatre and Choral programs. In his spare time he practices martial arts, fixes bikes, makes pizzas, studies politics and religion, and dreams up his next big road trip.
